The Company
Our client is a leading financial services platform operating at scale within a dynamic and evolving emerging market. The business spans regulated banking and rapidly expanding digital financial services, serving a broad customer base across retail, SME, and corporate segments.
The platform is undergoing a period of transformation and growth, with increasing focus on digital lending, financial inclusion, and technology-led scale. Against this backdrop, risk management sits at the core of sustainable expansion, requiring strong governance, forward-looking frameworks, and close alignment with regulators and stakeholders.
This appointment represents a critical leadership role to strengthen enterprise-wide risk capability, ensuring resilience, regulatory alignment, and disciplined growth.
The Position
The Chief Risk Officer will lead the enterprise-wide risk management function across both the banking and digital financial services businesses.
Reporting directly to the respective CEOs and working closely with the Board and executive leadership team, the CRO will be responsible for defining and executing a comprehensive risk strategy aligned to the organisation’s growth ambitions and regulatory expectations.
The mandate encompasses full-spectrum risk oversight, including:
Enterprise Risk Leadership
Design and implement group-wide risk frameworks, governance structures, and policies aligned with Board-approved risk appetite
Establish robust reporting, accountability, and escalation mechanisms across all risk domains
Credit Risk (Core Focus Area)
Own the end-to-end credit risk framework across retail, SME, corporate, and digital lending portfolios
Oversee underwriting standards, approval frameworks, portfolio monitoring, and collections strategy
Provide governance across both relationship-managed lending and high-volume digital consumer finance portfolios
Embed data-driven decisioning, early warning frameworks, and disciplined portfolio management practices
Digital Lending & AI Governance
Provide independent oversight of analytics and AI-driven credit models
Ensure strong model risk governance including validation, monitoring, explainability, and fairness controls
Balance innovation with regulatory and risk discipline in scaling digital lending
Operational Risk & Resilience
Lead operational risk frameworks including RCSA, KRIs, and loss event management
Drive enterprise-wide resilience planning, including crisis and incident management protocols
Oversee fraud risk management across both traditional and digital channels
Liquidity & Treasury Risk
Partner with Finance and Treasury to oversee liquidity, capital adequacy, and balance sheet risks
Ensure disciplined management of CAR, LDR, stress testing, and contingency funding frameworks
Regulatory Engagement
Act as the primary interface with regulators and supervisory bodies
Lead regulatory reporting, audits, and inspections
Maintain proactive engagement and ensure alignment with evolving regulatory frameworks
Risk Culture & Governance
Embed a strong risk culture across the organisation
Drive training, awareness, and accountability at all levels
Ensure risk considerations are integrated into strategic and operational decision-making
The Person
The successful candidate will be a seasoned risk leader with deep experience across banking and financial services, ideally complemented by exposure to digital financial platforms.
Key requirements include:
Degree in Finance, Business, Law or related discipline; postgraduate qualifications preferred
15+ years of experience in financial services risk management, with significant leadership exposure
Proven expertise across credit risk, including both corporate/SME lending and retail or digital lending environments
Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and experience engaging with financial regulators
Experience in emerging markets is essential; prior exposure to Southeast Asia or similar environments is highly advantageous
Familiarity with digital lending, analytics-driven credit decisioning, and model governance frameworks
Demonstrated ability to operate at Board and executive level, influencing strategy and driving alignment across stakeholders
In addition, the individual will bring:
Strong leadership capability with the ability to build and scale high-performing risk teams
Commercial judgement balanced with disciplined risk management
High levels of integrity, resilience, and adaptability in complex environments
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-evolving, high-growth market context
Local language capability is advantageous but not essential.
Reporting Structure
The Chief Risk Officer reports directly to the respective entity CEOs and is a member of the executive leadership team, with regular engagement at Board and committee level.
