The Company 

The company is a well-established, highly progressive technology-focused company driven by a cosmopolitan senior management team offering significant international expertise. Having developed proprietary, patented technology, the company is the market leader in Myanmar whilst building a team of more than 2000 employees. To support its ongoing growth and long-term domestic and international ambitions, it seeks to appoint a well-rounded Legal Director.

The Position 

Reporting to a noted expatriate General Counsel & Commercial Director, the appointed individual will act as Deputy Head whilst overseeing a growing team of local Burmese lawyers whilst supporting all aspects of the business. This will include organizing the workload of a couple of specialist litigation lawyers whilst reviewing key legal claims, the management of a fast-paced commercial contracts environment including managing critical client and international partner relationships as well as associated contract reviews. In addition, the appointed individual will take responsibility for sanctions advice/management, corporate governance and compliance management (complete with internal guidance, education and training to drive Best Practice) whilst overseeing many ad hoc projects that may vary from financial structuring to proposed M&A transactions and the evaluation and advice relating to additional unrelated businesses. The role will also include company secretarial duties for entities and subsidiaries in Myanmar, Singapore and additional geographies across Asia.

The Person 

Interested candidates will be Myanmar or Foreign lawyers offering a good Law Degree, a strong command of English language and at least -10+ years’ experience gained within Private Practice and/or In-house (preferably within a MNC environment). Such individuals should offer broad legal exposure (ideally with sole legal counsel responsibility) that will comprise strength in at least 2/3 of the following components: commercial contracts, capital markets, litigation, compliance and corporate governance. Current or prior exposure to Myanmar or a similar ‘Emerging Market’ is strongly preferred.

The company will offer an all-in monthly package of circa USD$6-8k.
